Travelling through the village of Gozd Martuljek at the start of the Julian Alps, you are drawn immediately to one peak by its beautiful pyramid summit – Spik. With its outstanding 900metre face dominating the peak this mountain is known as the Matterhorn of the Julian Alps and is one of the most tempting in Slovenia for experienced climbers.
The route that we take climbs slowly from the lush green valley to wild mountain trails. The magnificent view from Spik’s summit is breathtaking with a bird’s eye view of alpine villages below us, while surrounding us is the Karavanke Mountain Range and the Julian Alps.
