THE GREAT OUTDOORS TREK

Slovenia's Ridges offer an amazing variety of scenery, while walking on some of the most impressive ridges in the country. Not technically difficult ridge walking is the perfect next step up from recreational walking to wild mountain trails.

In the heart of the Triglav National Park - Lake Bohinj is a hidden jewel circled by a stunning range of mountains. We start from the small mountain town of Bohinjska Bistrica and as we ascend up through meadows the Sava River flows below us.

Heading onto the ridge the Julian Alps dominate the horizon with Triglav standing proud. Circling the lake below we are walking on the border between the coastal area of Primorska and the mountain region of Gorenjska. History spans the area where remnants of the borders from World War I still remain as the Adriatic Sea shimmers in the distance.

After leaving the area of the Julian Alps we head to the natural border between Slovenia and Austria. The rugged outline of Kosuta Ridge and the powerful peak of Beguncisca fill the horizon. The wild trails on Beguncisca are cut into the mountain as we complete a full circle of the peak before ascending onto the Kosuta Ridge. Running for 12 kms this wonderful ridge is directly on the border between the two neighbouring countries.

This seven - day trek is a wonderful introduction to ridge walking, which isn't technically difficult. All you need is previous experience in walking, a head for heights and the need to see some of Slovenia's most stunning scenery.
