Summer Holidays in Slovenia :: Trekking Programs :: Seven Triglav Lakes

THE SEVEN TRIGLAV LAKES VALLEY

High mountain pastures, abundant wildlife, waterfalls, rare mountain flowers and the spectacular glacier lakes can all be witnessed on this 3 day trek as we pass through the amazing Triglav National Park on easy, gradual and non demanding mountain trails.

The Triglav National Park is an area of outstanding beauty that is situated in the heart of the Alpine region and covers 84,800 hectares. It includes many sights of natural beauty, Mt Triglav, numerous ravines, lakes, rivers, streams, forests, pastures and excellent hiking trails all leading through the delights of the park. At the start of the park on the south western side sits Bohinjsko Jerzero (Lake Bohinj), the largest glacier lake in Slovenia.

Lake Bohinj is where we will start our trek which is formed by the Triglav glacier itself. Starting at 2750m the glacier works it way underground until 2071m, where the first of the Triglav valley lakes appear. The lakes then disappear only to re-appear again a few hundred metres down the valley. The Seven Triglav Lakes Valley is considered to be one of the most interesting in Europe, not only for its natural beauty but also for the unique formations. The limestone mountains with their porous nature give each of the lakes its own identity, each lake being different in colour due to the minerals picked up on its journey underground from lake to lake. Such as Zeleno Jezero (Green Lake), Mlaka Jezero (Milk Lake) and Crno Jezero (Black Lake). The Black Lake is the first one we encounter as we arrive at the beginning of the valley from our journey up from Bohinj Lake on our first day. The further two days are spent exploring the valley of the lakes and the high mountain pastures - famous for its cheese and schnapps.

This trek is easy due to the nature of the trails. We hike on non demanding paths so we can absorb the many qualities of the National Park. The wildlife, fauna and flora, sample the cheese and of course the Seven Triglav Lakes Valley.

The route on this trek is flexible due to the many different options we have on the second two days. The abundance of trails gives us the options to explore as we wish. Each morning the guide will discuss the various opportunities for that day. The first day we will start at lake Bohinj 660m and head for Dom na Komna 1525m - visiting the waterfall, Slap Savica, on route. On reaching Dom na Komna we will leave our rucksacks and explore the area around - visiting the Black Lake and the historical area above Komna.

The Seven Triglav Lakes is an easy trek, especially suitable for those who have
never trekked hut to hut before,
families and people interested in alpine fauna and flora.
